Step 6

TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION

TSA Academy (FLETC)

After you pass the background check and receive your final offer, you will be scheduled to attend the TSA Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. Training typically lasts about two weeks and is fast-paced and highly structured. The curriculum covers TSA policies, security principles, use-of-force awareness, and professional communication. The environment follows a military-style structure with dormitory living, early mornings, and tightly scheduled coursework, creating a disciplined and professional atmosphere. This FLETC training serves as the foundation for earning your official certification as a Transportation Security Officer (TSO).

Basic TSO Training

Once you are assigned to your home airport, you will begin Basic TSO Training, which combines classroom instruction with hands-on lab practice. Training modules cover security screening procedures, pat-down techniques, explosive trace detection (ETD), access control, and foundational behavioral detection principles. You will also receive instruction on ethics and professionalism, including integrity, accountability, handling sensitive information, and treating passengers with respect. This phase of training ensures you fully understand the legal, ethical, and operational responsibilities required of a federal security officer.
