BACKGROUND AND SECURITY CLEARANCE
Overview of the Background Investigation
Once you receive a Conditional Job Offer (CJO), TSA initiates a comprehensive background investigation to ensure you meet suitability standards required for all federal security roles. TSA uses its federal vetting authority to examine several areas of your personal history. This includes a criminal records check, a credit review, employment and education verification, and reference checks. The purpose is to confirm honesty, reliability, and overall trustworthiness. Any inconsistencies or omissions may delay the process or lead to disqualification, so transparency is critical.
